Role Overview: The Head Recovery is responsible for leading and managing the company’s loan recovery operations to reduce Non-Performing Loans (NPLs) and improve portfolio quality. The role oversees recovery strategies, supervises recovery teams, manages high-risk cases, ensures compliance with regulatory requirements, and collaborates with cross-functional departments such as Credit, Risk, and Legal. The Head Recovery ensures timely collection, drives process improvements, and provides strategic insights to senior management to strengthen overall portfolio health.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement loan recovery strategies to minimize Non-Performing Loans (NPLs).
  • Set targets and monitor performance of the loan recovery team to ensure achievement of collection goals.
  • Provide guidance and leadership to recovery staff.
  • Collaborate with senior management to align recovery objectives with organizational strategy.
  • Oversee daily loan recovery operations across.
  • Approve and monitor repayment plans or restructuring requests for delinquent borrowers.
  • Implement effective follow-up mechanisms for overdue accounts to ensure timely collection.
  • Ensure proper documentation of all recovery actions and agreements.
  • Ensure compliance with internal policies, legal requirements, and regulatory guidelines related to loan recovery.
  • Monitor and analyze portfolio at risk (PAR) and recommend corrective measures to reduce bad debts.
  • Work closely with the Risk and Legal departments to manage high-risk or litigated cases.
  • Establish preventive measures to reduce future delinquency.
  • Train, coach, and mentor recovery staff to enhance negotiation, collection, and customer-handling skills.
  • Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide feedback to improve team productivity.
  • Ensure proper allocation of workload and support to recovery officers.
  • Coordinate with the legal department to initiate legal proceedings against defaulting borrowers when necessary.
  • Review and approve legal actions and ensure cost-effectiveness of litigation.
  • Maintain strong relationships with external legal counsel and enforcement agencies.
  • Prepare and present regular reports on recovery performance, delinquency trends, and portfolio quality to management.
  • Analyze root causes of loan delinquency and propose corrective action plans.
  • Provide input to senior management for policy review and process improvements.
  • Review and update loan recovery policies, procedures, and workflows for better efficiency.
  • Introduce innovative collection techniques and tools to improve recovery rates.
  • Ensure robust monitoring systems to track overdue accounts effectively.
  • Collaborate with credit and Sales management to address delinquency issues.
  • Engage with customers professionally to maintain a positive institutional reputation while ensuring repayment.
  • Support cross-functional initiatives to improve overall portfolio health.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business Administration, Law, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
  • Minimum 5–7 years of experience in loan recovery, credit risk, or collections, preferably in banking or microfinance.
  • Proven leadership experience in managing recovery or collection teams.
  • Strong knowledge of loan recovery processes, restructuring, PAR management, and legal procedures.
  • Excellent negotiation, communication, and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Ability to analyze delinquency trends and provide strategic recommendations.
  • Strong understanding of regulatory requirements related to loan recovery.
  • Good decision-making skills with the ability to handle difficult or high-risk cases.
  • Proficient in reporting, portfolio analysis, and documentation.
